I decided a while ago (wait, how far back was this? um..... 2010. 3 years ago. wow.) that I needed to do more things to keep myself interested in my own life.
I mean, if I met me, and I told myself about my life... I'd probably think I was an extremely boring new acquaintance, and just smile and nod until I moved along to my next session of staring at a computer screen for 50 or 60 hours in a week.
It's a skill.
Not a very enviable one. And I'm pretty sure anyone who's been through college/university/high school/ whathaveyou also possesses this skill.
Still.
It's a skill. And I have it.
But I decided that the ability to stare at a computer screen till my mind went numb wasn't enough for me. I wanted other skills too.
Shocker.
So, I joined a play. A musical. I was only in the chorus, but it sure was a heck of a lot of fun.
Didn't exactly learn any new skills, unless you count charleston dance moves. Ok. I learned a few new dance moves, and that I need to work on my thinking/dancing/singing simultaneously skills. 2 out of 3 ain't bad right?
Unless it's opening night and they changed the choreography yesterday for the opening scene.
Whatevs.
No biggie.
>_<
I also started taking dance classes again. Ballet has an allure that has beckoned to my very soles for quite a while, and so I looked it up, signed up, and started attempting pirouettes in the kitchen. I'm still not very good at pirouettes, but I'm sure a heck of a lot better than I was 5 years ago! Or 6 years ago... or last year even.
My newest new skill that I decided I had to attempt to acquire is English Riding.
Equestrian Pursuits now take up one morning a week.
And I have the bruises on the inside of my knee to prove it. Plus the boots.
Oh the boots.
Not actual riding boots, but close enough that they let me get on the horse. After a first lesson where all I did was prepare to get on the horse (catch the horse, very important, groom the horse, pretty much essential, tack up, not always necessary, but since I have no interest in riding bareback, I'm gonna add it to my list of "musts" for each lesson).
The second lesson, which was back at the end of September, they let me actually get on the horse.
BOO-YAH.
I'm amazing. I'M ON A HORSE.
This week, due to scheduling difficulties, I had two lessons to make up for one I missed a couple weeks ago.
The first lesson, I did fairly well - relative to how I usually do. Still working on some of those beginner problems, but we were getting there.
The second lesson, my legs hurt, my head hurt, I was distracted by who knows what, and the result was that I was a limp noodle in the saddle.
And my teacher was all "WHA???"
and I was all "so so sorry..."
and my legs were all "we don't care, get off the horse".
And here I thought I was progressing.
But hey! My legs have apparently learned how to talk. New skill: check.
