My last week in Beijing, my sister Bea and I spent most of our time inside.
Partly, we were exhausted. We'd just spent a month in constant motion, and nothing seemed more like luxury than not having anywhere to go.
The rest of the reason - well...
Beijing has trouble with pollution.
Major, overwhelming trouble.
As in, they orchestrated a rain storm this week in order to try and force the pollution to ease off a bit.
Yes, China has learned how to manipulate the weather. It's kinda awesome, and rather bewildering.
My last week there, every day had a high pollution index. Every day the sun went to bed because it just gave up trying to pierce through the layers of heavy smog that shrouded the city. It felt a little bit like dusk all the time. And the air tasted gritty.
We still went outside. A little bit. Sometimes. Maybe once a day.
We just didn't race around and walk for hours upon hours like we had been doing while we were touring around.
It was actually quite nice. ^_^
I have a million pictures from my time in China (and I'm almost not exaggerating), which I have every intention of posting. Soon.
Honest.
But for today - I am enjoying the very natural rain that is falling outside my window of my lovely new-to-me apartment in Paris.
And I'm jet-lagged, cut me some slack.
