a walking day

7 March 2014

I spent a day wandering around. Actually, I've spent several days just wandering around since I got to Paris. It's become my new favourite default activity.

Plus, I have to do something to counteract all the bread I've been eating, pretty much constantly, since I disembarked and set foot in this beautiful, bread filled city.

Seriously, an entire fresh baguette 2 or 3 times a day is probably pushing the bounds of good judgement. But it is well within the bounds of good taste.

I have obtained a pocket sized map of the metro/bus/tram system, and I study it in off moments, planning out little routes, or just picking interesting sounding station names that I would like to use as starting points when I feel like wandering.

I picked one close to the Eiffel Tower the other day, and then just walked.

I walked around the Eiffel Tower, I walked away from it, I walked back towards it - I eventually lost track of it all together as I wandered narrow streets of brick or cobblestone and marveled at the skill that has been used to maintain and update those buildings.

It doesn't matter where I go in the this city, all I have to do is look up and I will see something beautiful.
