Some wonderfully kind friends of ours let us in on a secret the other day - they had cherry trees. Laden with ripe fruit. And they weren't going to need quite *all* of it.
O_O
So my sister and I and a couple friends hurried ourselves on down to their backyard with a couple of big bowls and cherries fell off the trees into our waiting hands. They are sour cherries, perfect for making pie filling, but not necessarily the kind you want to spend hours munching on as a snack.
We took the cherries home, blissfully happy with our bowls of bright red fruit, and planned our next level of attack.
It took all 4 of us nearly 2 hours to pit all the cherries we'd picked, but we put some good music on and had a fabulous time anyway. Cooked up some wonderful looking pie filling and set it out to cool.
I'd already made pie dough, so once we had some cherry filling cool enough to use, we rolled out the dough and made ourselves some hand pies.
And oh, but they are good!
how would they do in cherry cheese cake?
ReplyDeleteMmm this is a good question. We may have to try it out! I still have a bunch of the filling left. ^_^
