temple of heaven

14 May 2014

We had gloriously clear weather for our tour of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.  We had met someone at a restaurant a few days before who was so impressed with Bea's Chinese that he offered to be our tour guide when we went to the Temple of Heaven.

Turns out he did even better than that! He got us a tour guide who spoke English, a bus to take us from the gates through all the park land and to the actual temple, and all our entry fees paid for.

The Temple of Heaven is beautiful. It has so much symbolism in the way it is built, and where each building is placed, and how many pillars they have (sometimes consecutive rings of pillars). In how many walkways are set side by side, and where the bridges span the park land.
In the slope of the main path that rises just slightly as you go from building to building. In the size of the buildings that grow larger after every immaculate courtyard.

It was an amazing day.
