A day to wander

22 August 2014

Our second day in Shanghai was clear and beautiful. We took advantage of it and went what seemed like a million places. We even took the BUS! We were getting brave, confidant, nonchalant about the prospect of being lost in a strange city. That's half the adventure anyway, right?

We met up with one of Bea's friends who lives in Shanghai, and headed for the beautiful and extensive botanical gardens.

Next we went to People's Park and took a nice leisurely tour - including Children's Park, which looked like an awful lot of fun!

We thought about going to the museum - but.... line up. Really long line up.  So - not today. Besides, who would want to spend such a beautiful day inside?

Everyone else, apparently.

We did go inside one place: Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum!

All those celebrities, waiting patiently for us to come and take their picture. ^_^

And - to finish the day off, we stayed out late and saw the sights at Yu Yuan Garden, at night. For the Festival of Lights.

The streets were packed, of course, and the smell of food pervaded the whole experience. Which would have been awesome had I not been sick for most of the day. Some poor subway guard got to watch me throw up into a garbage can while he gave Bea directions to the washroom. >_<  Not my finest moment.

But I still managed to see the sights! And we made it home (hotel) in one piece and happy.
A good day. A very long day. A meandering sort of day.
